The Australian Seekers Show is coming to Frankston for one performance only at 4pm on Sunday 9 October. It will be an intimate performance in Frankston Arts Centre black box theatre at Cube 37.
The Australian Seekers Show is a tribute to one of Australia’s most successful and iconic groups – The Seekers.
Fronted by the soaring vocals of Judith Durham, The Seekers were the first Australian pop group to achieve major chart and sales success in the UK and the US. Their sound was considered too pop orientated to be classified as folk yet considered too folk to be rock. In any event, their success and popularity made them household names all over the world and reaching sales of over 50 million records worldwide. Their popularity in OZ saw them awarded joint ‘Australians of the Year’ in 1967 and individually honoured as ‘Officers of the Order of Australia’ in the Queen’s Birthday Honours of June 2014.
Jayne Henry (vocals and percussion), Danny Withington (double bass and vocals), Mick Olsen (guitar and vocals) and Russell Hinton (12 string and vocals) collaborate to perform The Seekers greatest hits live with that magical four part harmony and the Seekers signature bright up-tempo sound.
Enjoy timeless classics and cover hits including California Dreaming, Puff the Magic Dragon, Turn Turn Turn, Yesterday, Blowin’ in the Wind, and of course those unforgettable Top 10 Seekers hits like ‘A World of Our Own’, ‘I’ll Never Find Another You’, ‘Morningtown Ride’, ‘Someday, One Day’ (written by Paul Simon), ‘Georgie Girl’ (the title song of the film of the same name) and Tom Springfield’s adaptation of the Russian folk song ‘Stenka Razin’ and the Seekers signature finale, the ‘Carnival is Over’.
The Australian Seekers Show also perform a selection of traditional music including the historic Australian Bush ballad ‘Waltzing Matilda’, Bullamakanka’s ‘Home Among the Gum Trees’ and Woodley’s and Dobe Newton’s song, ‘I Am Australian’, which was recorded by The Seekers and has become an unofficial Australian anthem.
The Australian Seekers Show is truly unique and Australian through and through. Join us and relive the folk era of the sixties and the inspirational music of The Seekers.
